Film Festival

Doctor Who has been filling our lives with galactic time travel for over fifty years. Sure, the stories are engaging, the Doctors are quirky, and the time travel is intoxicating, but there’s one thing above all that’s kept the show ticking through thick and thin: the fans. Our #WhoItYourself campaign is all about celebrating you, the Whovians, and what better way to honor our favorite film success than with a little film of your own?

Last year's Film Festival was great fun, so we're keeping it going! In year three we’re again asking creators of all ages to put together their best Doctor Who-inspired film for the chance to compete in our contest. Top entries will be shown at CONsole Room’s Film Festival during the 2020 CONsole Room event and will have the chance to win an additional prize. Create a fresh new minisode, Doctor tribute, original alien invasion, or beyond - the possibilities are as limitless as time itself!

TIMELINE

All contest days begin at 12:00 AM CDT and end at 11:59 PM CDT.

Submission Period: March 15, 2019 - December 15, 2019
Initial Judging Period: December 16, 2019 - December 20, 2019
Finalist Notification: Finalists will be notified on or about December 21, 2019.
Film Festival: The Film Festival will occur during CONsole Room 2020. Specific dates and times for film festival screening will be announced at a later date. CONsole Room will be held January 17-19, 2020.
Winners: Winners will be announced at the CONsole Room closing ceremonies on January 19, 2020.

ELIGIBILITY

This contest is FREE to enter.

This contest is open to entrants of all ages. Entries will be split into two age categories: Adult (18+) and Youth (17 and under).

Entrants under the age of 18 (minors) need parental or guardian permission to enter the contest.

GRAND PRIZE

In addition to appearing in the CONsole Room 2020 Film Festival, a Grand Prize will be awarded in each age category. This Grand Prize will include a 2021 CONsole Room membership and a 2020 CONsole Room t-shirt.

There is a limit of one prize per film submission. Additional prizes will be awarded at the discretion of CONsole Room.

HOW TO ENTER

To enter, sign in to YouTube or Vimeo and upload your video contest entry. If you do not already have a YouTube or Vimeo account, you will be required to create one.

After uploading your video, go to our video submission page to register your submission. You must completely and accurately submit all required information to enter.

MINORS: Entrants under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete the submission and give permission for the entry to be valid.

VIDEO SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Maximum length - five (5) minutes.

  • Videos must be the entrant’s original work.
  • Videos must be successfully uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.
  • Videos must comply with YouTube or Vimeo terms of service and specifications for user submissions and/or video uploads.
  • Videos must be family friendly (PG or G). Entries containing graphic material, nudity, or copious amounts of violence will be disqualified at CONsole Room's discretion.

All films must contain an introduction (image or audio) that states:

  • the entrant's name (and parent/guardian's name, if entrant is a minor),
  • a statement that grants CONsole Room the right to use the video without restriction.

The introduction may or may not be edited out before display at CONsole Room. The introduction does not count toward the entries' five minute time limit.

Entries not meeting these requirements may be disqualified. CONsole Room reserves the right to disqualify any video at its sole discretion.

JUDGING

Entries will be judged by a set of judges determined by CONsole Room, as well as CONsole Room 2020 attendees.

Entries will be judged by a set of criteria determined by CONsole Room. Criteria will include originality, creativity, execution, and overall enjoyment, among others.
